Selwyn United win club of the year

Selwyn United took out the 2017 Club of the Year award at Friday night’s Nexia Canterbury Sports Awards.

The Rolleston based club co-jointly won the award with Old Boys Collegian Cricket Club, with the remaining two finalists being Lincoln University Basketball and Waimairi Tennis Club.

The award is further recognition of the outstanding work being done at the club. 2017 saw Selwyn United gain promotion to MPL and become the first club in the country to attain QSM 2-star status.

Darren Sudlow made special of former president Gerrard De Rooy, along with the many other volunteers who make the club tick.

“The club has a clear vision and a number of their people have brought in to this, allowing the club to work toward a common goal” say Martin Field-Dodgson, Mainland Football's Community Football Manager.

Mr Field-Dodgson adds, “we congratulate Selwyn United for an outstanding year, not only progressing their club but the standard of football and footballers in their club. They really are the current bench mark for club capability in the country.”
