Vacancy | Football Development Officer


The FDO role is responsible to help increasing opportunities for players to experience high quality football with a primary focus on Junior Football development that will improve playing standards across the Federation.

Mainland Football has a track record as one of the leading Federations in New Zealand who are not afraid to break new grounds with a continual focus of improvement for Clubs, Schools, Coaches, Officials, Administrators and our football community.

You would be part of a great team culture that has day-to-day challenges in meeting the demands of the sport we love.

The ideal candidate would have 5 years’ experience in football development, alongside C License Coaching Qualifications and huge passion for football. They would need to have a full understanding of football structures in New Zealand and the community sport which we positively support.

Interpersonal skills are important to the role along with good communication skills (verbal and written). A good understanding of Word, Excel, Social Media and Management background would assist.

The candidate must be able work within a team of Technical staff, be self-motivated and supported by a personable, open and honest character.

A company car is provided to support the role, alongside an expenses package of mobile phone, laptop and statutory holidays

With flexible working hours, including weekend work at times, for a role that will include a variety of tasks as part of the team in Mainland Football.

An outline of key responsibilities are listed below

  • Manage the Football in Schools Programme, supporting districts/clubs
  • Manage & Promote school/club links within Primary & Intermediate schools
  • Liaise with Sport Canterbury and complete KiwiSport reports.
  • Manage and support clubs in the delivery and development of high-quality Junior Skill Centres across the Federation.
  • Support clubs in continuing to develop the Junior Framework. 
  • Support Junior Futsal Development opportunities through the Futsal Development Officer
  • Provide Coach Education support and delivery across Junior, Youth and Senior Courses and mentoring.
  • Develop the Retreating Line concept within clubs in support of club coaches
  • Attend Federation, Club & NZF Meetings as and when required to assist in the strategic direction of the game.
  • Supporting the National Talent Pathway and Mainland Football Talented players through Talent ID. 
  • Attend and support the Federations players at National Age Group Tournament
  • Love the game
